The hypnotic state is natural for us. Most of us daydream at some point in our daily life and what we don’t realise that this is the first in the levels of trance where we drift from being alert to a different level of consciousness. We often do this when driving especially on the motorway and reach a constant speed. Our mind may drift off and our unconscious takes over though if the need arises such as the need to change lanes or slow down our conscious mind will come back into play. You may think ” I don’t do that” but has there been times when you have reached where you are going and think that was quick or you find you have missed your turn off? Driving is just one of the automatic things that we do.

So what is hypnotherapy and what is it not?

  • You may be in a trance like condition but will still be aware and concentrating on the hypnotherapist voice and you can always to choose to leave it

  • Being made to do things you would not ordinarily do-stage hypnosis
  • Being deeply asleep
  • Putting suggestions in your mind that you cannot hear-Subliminal
  • The hypnotist having power over you

  • Is not harmful
  • Getting stuck in a trance
